We could all do with a little less stress in our lives, and WalletHub examined all 50 states and the District of Columbia to see which harbored more and less stressful elements.
To determine the rankings, the site “compared the 50 states across 41 key indicators of stress to determine the places to avoid and achieve a more relaxing life. Our data set ranges from average hours worked per week to personal bankruptcy rate to share of adults getting adequate sleep.”
The key indicators all fit under four key dimensions; work-related stress; money-related stress; family-related stress; and health-and safety-related stress. Data came from a variety of sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, FINRA Investor Education Foundation and others.
Minnesota topped the list for least stressful, ranking consistently low in the four key dimensions. Other least stressed states are listed below:
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
- New Hampshire
