The city of Lynchburg, Va., previously had a program called After the Fire, which entailed walking the neighborfood after a fire occurred, talking with residents about the importance of fire safety and installing free fire alarms where needed. With the help of an intern, Assistant Fire Marshal Matt O’Daniel and the department came up with a new program called Weekly Walkabout, walking a neighborhood and talking with residents before a fire occurs.
