No4: A new, affordable housing community has been built on vacant state land in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., and opened to residents late last year. (www.gov.ca.gov)

A home of one’s own is the American Dream, but it is a dream that is out of reach for millions of Americans. Because nearly 53% of households lack the $61,487 annual income to purchase a modest $200,000 home, affordable … Continue reading →

National Public Works Week 2025

The Municipal Posted on May 18, 2025 by The MunicipalApril 23, 2025
Capturing the spirit of the small, specialist shops of yesteryear, where a warm welcome and honest work ethic were the order of the day, Jones and Co. is a family-run studio based in Cape Town, South Africa. There, everyone plays a part — Dylan illustrates, his wife, Heike, takes care of production, and their kids, Anna-Rose and Sophie-Mae, provide inspiration as they relish the simple joys of childhood. It’s in this environment, between the ebb and flow of everyday family life that Jones and Co. creates and craft their passion — character design, editorial and all forms of vector illustration.

The American Public Works Association announced the theme “People, Purpose, Presence” for the 2025 National Public Works Week, May 18-24. Public works contributes to advancing and enhancing everyone’s quality of life, no matter where they live in the world. Public … Continue reading →

Mont Belvieu public works plans ahead for city’s growth

The Municipal Posted on October 25, 2024 by Nicholette CarlsonOctober 8, 2024
One of the more unique experiences of the public works department recently was when they were called in to assist with the removal of an almost 12-foot alligator from a drainage ditch near a busy road. Given the size of the animal, the parks and wildlife department were unable to handle it on their own. The department had to get creative and brought in their grapple truck to pick up the alligator and contain it safely for the parks and wildlife department. (Photo provided by the Mont Belvieu, Texas, Public Works Department)

During his nine years working for the city, two as the public works director, Bill Thompson has seen the population of Mont Belvieu, Texas, nearly triple. It is expected to triple again in the next 10 years. An eastern suburb … Continue reading →
