Coal Tar Sealant Controversy

Recent studies conducted by the United States Geological Survey found high levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in homes adjacent to parking lots sealed with coal tar pitch products. The product is used extensively in the Eastern, Northern and Southern U.S. to seal not only parking lots, but also driveways and playgrounds. Western states tend to use asphalt-based sealants.
